Canada Summer Jobs 2026 - Cafe Worker

We are hiring a Cafe worker through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) 2026 program to assist the daily operation at the JBVC café located at 105 Gibson Centre.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Salary: $18.50/per hour (4% vacation pay inclusive in)
  • Duration: 9 weeks, duration between June 2, 2026, to August 29, 2026
  • Work Hours: 30 hours/week
  • Work Location: JBVC Café (105 Gibson Centre), occasional travel to Markham/Scarborough for booth promotions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Guest Services: Warmly welcome customers, provide menus, and share JBVC’s mission.
  • Cafe Operations: Accurately handle orders, payments, food/beverage service, and maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety.
  • Creative Marketing & Design: Support café marketing by designing visually appealing social media content (Instagram/Facebook). Assist in creating or updating promotional materials, such as posters, menus, and digital graphics.
  • Marketing: Help with product photography and basic video editing for online engagement.
  • Community Outreach: Set up and operate booths at local markets, ensuring a creative and professional visual presentation of our brand.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate closely with visually impaired and sighted staff to foster an inclusive environment.

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

 

  • Be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of employment (as per CSJ funding requirements)
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (International students are not eligible)
  • Legally entitled to work in Ontario
  • Align with JBVC’s mission and values
  • Willing and able to work flexible hours as needed
  • Must be able to commit to the full 9 weeks contract duration
  • Proficient in written and spoken English; ability to communicate in a second language, especially Cantonese is a strong asset
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and own vehicle is a strong asset
  • Possess strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Able to work independently and collaborate effectively as part of team
  • Competence with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and basic data entry
  • Comfortable using communication apps, such as WhatsApp and Gmail
  • Strong background or interest in Graphic Design/Visual Arts.
  • Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop/Illustrator), or other design tools is a significant asset.

We are hiring an event planner Assistant through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) 2026 program to assist in planning and delivering inclusive programs for our community.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Duration: 9 weeks, duration between June 2, 2026, to August 29, 2026
  • Work Hours: 30 hours/week.
  • Work Location: Hybrid*

*Primarily work-from-home, with program delivery in Markham and Scarborough Areas

 

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and Coordinate Events: Assist JBVC staff in designing inclusive events for visually impaired clients and families (online + in-person)
  • Manage Budgets: Support development and monitoring of event budgets to stay within allocated funds.
  • Scheduling: Create and manage event timelines to ensure completion within deadlines
  • Coordinate Logistics: Book venues, liaise with vendors, manage schedules and timelines.
  • Promote Events: Create/distribute materials via social media, email, and print.
  • Support Execution: Supervise setup, manage technical requirements, assist on-site activities.
  • Evaluate & Report: Collect feedback, contribute to post-event reports for continuous improvement.
  • Relationship Management: Build strong relationships with clients, volunteers, and staff for future collaborations.
